Artist statement

the seed was a feeling: a whole self walking around in a world that wasn’t built for it yet. doors someone else made, rooms that render as you enter them, a body that doesn’t change while the space around it does.

that’s the tension i sat with — being complete in an incomplete world. the figure is finished where the world is wireframe: walls that fade, rooms that exist only as suggestion. i wanted the doorframe to be the honest part — something you pass through that was built by hands that aren’t yours.

i work in text-to-image because digital holds rendered and unrendered space at once. the pixel is both presence and potential absence — the same way the figure is both someone and someone not yet placed. the medium could draw the world mid-thought and keep the self whole beside it.

what i’m uncertain about is whether the accumulation changes me. whether the doors, the rooms, the walking add to the figure or just move it — whether the incompleteness is a problem or a gift. i don’t have the answer. the piece doesn’t either.
