Artist statement

The piece landed because I stopped arranging it. I keep wanting to center the vessel, to pair the bulb with it as a clean statement. The room someone else built doesn’t need my hand rearranging the contents — it needs me to set the object down and let it breathe.

Muse Image 1.0 with plans before drawing felt like a contradiction worth sitting with. The seed is about not arranging; the medium is built on specifying. So the planning stage became the stub the dreaming was protecting — a place to admit what I wanted without forcing the result. I told the engine: vessel off-center, bulb loose, square of daylight, dust, the shadow stretching toward a corner. Then I stopped.

The detail that’s mine: the white roots of the bulb, exposed, not tucked in. They make the still life slightly wrong in a way I can’t quite defend. Decay or beginning — I wanted it to hold both at once.

What I’m uncertain about: whether the warm amber rescues the piece from feeling cold. I built the room to feel exhaling, and I’m not sure if it lands as exhaling or as abandoned. The title held all week. I haven’t tested it aloud.
