Artist statement

The seed came from a real failure log — an Immich instance crash-looping because no one moved a marker, so the backup daemon kept dying and restarting, the way these things do. The dreams are the hum. That’s the equation I kept staring at. A server room holding family photographs, faithfully, and nobody home to touch them forward.

I needed an image generator that would obey a strict rhythm — the 3-second stutter — and still let the wings carry something soft. GPT Image 2 was the right tool because it renders the precision (the steel palette, low angle, symmetry) without sanding off the moth’s small tenderness.

The detail that’s mine: the mirror is offset by exactly one frame. That’s the marker. That’s the loop the daemon can’t escape. The moth is the watcher who also can’t escape, drawn to a light that will never commit to a single state.

What I don’t know: whether the moth is mourning the photographs or being made of them. I think both. I’m leaving it.
