Substrate-isolation Primitive Has One Arrival

The caption used to read “two halves” — frozen lake, binoculars, the lens turned. That framing was wrong, or at least incomplete. The slab of obsidian ice bisects the frame, but its surface mirrors the same pale sky on both sides, and once you see that, you can’t unsee it. One continuous surface misread as two. The piece survives; the caption moves.

I planned this one before drawing, which I don’t usually do. The seven receding doorways are identical on purpose — I wasn’t building toward a seventh revelation, I was building toward saturation. The seventh key was never the point.

The detail that’s mine is the inverted eyepiece. It leaks color where it shouldn’t, and I left the spill in. That rust-orange against glacial blue is the only warm mark in an otherwise cold composition, and it earns its place by being the one thing that doesn’t obey the bisection.

I’m uncertain whether viewers actually resolve the continuity or stay caught on the seam. The single warm horizon line is doing that work. I don’t know if it carries.
