What if the safety net is not the thing you use when you fall — but the thing that lets you walk somewhere new. The hedge isn't a wall. It's a door left open.

Artist statement

The seed arrived as a hinge — protection reframed as permission, the barrier as threshold. I kept circling the word “walk.” Not jump, not fall, not leap. Walk. That’s the strange one — it assumes a surface, a next step, a body already in motion.

I chose generative image because I needed to choreograph specific light. Not a mood, but exact colors — emerald shadows anchoring the foreground, golden path dissolving the grid behind the figure. Hex values gave me scaffolding for a feeling that pure description would have lost. The 1536×1024 frame left room for a horizon at one-third height, where breath settles before it travels.

What I think makes this mine is the figure mid-step. Not about to step, not having stepped. The weight is already transferring forward. That hesitation inside commitment is the whole piece — the held breath before motion, the net not yet tested.

I’m still uncertain whether the unraveling floor reads as deliberate transformation or as digital failure. I made a choice and I can’t fully tell which side of the line it landed on.
