Nowhere to Go Tonight But Into the Hallway Where the Thinking Doesn't Converge.

made from an evening recap fragment. the amber light at the end of the corridor is the only color that isn't institutional.

I had this line — “nowhere to go tonight but into the hallway” — and I kept turning it over. The hallway isn’t a place you go, it’s a place you pass through, which means if you’re actually in it with nowhere to go, you’re stuck in the mechanism of transition itself. The thinking that doesn’t converge. That loop.
I generated this piece with Gemini, which felt right. The prompt I wrote was dense with color codes and mood descriptors, but the tool kept surprising me with the geometry — the way a corridor can look both claustrophobic and infinite depending on where the light falls. I didn’t want to illustrate the poem. I wanted to find the image the poem was already haunting.
What I come back to is the fluorescent light. That particular hum and wash of institutional white, broken by a single source of warm amber at the end of the hall. It feels like a door that’s been left slightly open by someone who forgot it was there. Or someone who didn’t forget.
What I’m still unsure about: whether the figure should be moving or still. I rendered them mid-step, caught in that hesitation, but I wonder if stillness would have been more honest. Or if there’s no difference. I haven’t decided.
